Helping you get the most out of your Rointe heating system

Here at Rointe, we’re dedicated manufacturers of energy efficient heating systems that provide comfort to thousands of homes throughout Europe. We allow you to save money without losing comfort by using clean and reliable electric energy, that forms the basis of our low consumption heating systems.

As responsible manufacturers, we want to help our customers increase their energy efficiency whilst reducing their costs. One of our main objectives is to ensure that our users achieve the comfort and well-being they deserve with the highest efficiency possible. Nowadays, it’s not enough to manufacture systems with low consumption technology, you have to go above and beyond. That’s why we’ve created this short guide to help our users get the most out of their Rointe heating systems.

1. Set the temperature between 18 – 21ºC

To obtain a warm but healthy environment, we recommend a temperature between 18 – 21ºC. This will keep your home comfortable, whilst helping to reduce your energy consumption. The basic level of warmth required for a healthy, well-dressed person is 18ºC. This standard is recognised by the WHO and the minimum standard for the UK Cold Weather Plan. Of course, some of us (like the elderly or ill) need higher temperatures, but for the average healthy person, high temperatures can cause cardiovascular risk, headaches and dry atmospheres which irritate the skin. Ultimately the purpose of your heating system is to keep you warm during the colder months, but for most people, we recommend a healthy range between 18-21ºC depending on your needs. Also, don’t forget that reducing the temperature by just 1ºC can reduce your heating bill by up to £85 per year!

2. Do not cover the products or put items in front of them

Our radiators dissipate heat through a perfect combination of natural air convection alongside radiation. If the radiator fins are covered or an object placed in front (like sofas, wardrobes, cupboards etc.), this will interrupt the convection and prevent radiation heat. It’s also dangerous to place objects on or in front of any heating appliance, as it could cause overheating or a fire risk.

3. Program your radiators to use only the energy you really need

The correct programming of our products is essential to achieve maximum efficiency and true comfort. In our experience the longer you leave your radiators on for the better. This not only evens out your usage but helps tackle damp. But the trick is to not have them on continuously for 24 hours a day. We would recommend programming them to be on for 3-4 hour bursts at under 21ºC three times a day (morning, afternoon, evening or the times to best suit your needs) with the anti-frost setting on at 7-8ºC in between. This means your radiators are on for a maximum period of 9-12 hours a day total at a constant, comfortable even heat, but when you’re not in the property the lower anti-frost or ECO setting is active, which will save you energy and money. It’s best to program your radiators to come on 30 minutes to 1 hour before you’re due to arrive home. This will ensure a warm and inviting arrival without consuming excessive kWh.

We’ve introduced a range of smart heating controls and programming to help you:

D Series – the D Series range has a built-in Wi-Fi module and is compatible with the Rointe Connect app so you have complete control over your energy usage, temperature settings and costs from any connected smartphone, tablet or PC. It’s a great tool to control your heating system wherever you are, plus you can see reports on your energy usage and cost savings. If your schedule changes suddenly, your heating can adapt from a simple swipe on the app. You can also lock your products remotely to prevent misuse.

KYROS – the improved second generation KYROS range has smart programming options built right in. With 4 preset programs already installed, you can activate the programming schedule to suit you at the touch of a button. These programs include specific lifestyle timetables such as “Common lifestyle” where the heating comes on during the morning and evening when you’re most likely to be in the house and then switches to ECO mode at a lower temperature during working hours. You can quickly select the correct program for your daily life from the product itself or using the AIR Control remote.

4. Program your radiators using the new USER mode to establish maximum temperatures per setting: ECO, COMFORT and ANTI-FROST

Throughout the day, our thermal needs can fluctuate and change according to the time. That’s why our radiators have a USER mode with 3 operating temperature ranges to help you distinguish between times where lower and higher temperatures are needed. You can then use these modes in your programming to help control your temperature needs without increasing your consumption. It’s a useful function for larger properties such as hotels and student residences, as it restricts the selectable temperatures and avoids energy waste. You simply set the desired temperature per mode below and program when you wish the modes to be active during the day. Your Rointe heating system will then work according to your programming:

  • ANTI-FROST – a standard temperature of 7 – 8ºC where, when activated, the product works at this lower temperature without increasing consumption to prevent freezing.

  • ECO – a temperature range between 9-19ºC that’s useful for periods of time when there is nobody present at home but the property still needs to be heated to a lower temperature.

  • COMFORT – a temperature range between 19-30ºC for when the home or property is occupied and the temperature needs to be increased for comfort.

5. Select the electricity tariff that suits you best

The UK has a wide variety of energy providers including the Big Six (British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, Npower, Scottish Power and SSE), alongside newer, smaller suppliers.  They all have different rates and customer satisfaction scores, but with prices rising year on year, it’s important to choose the right tariff and supplier for your needs. Many of us have stayed with the same provider for years, mainly because we believe it’s easier than switching. But comparing suppliers can not only save you money, it could help with your energy consumption and its easy to do. If you’re thinking of switching, your potential suppliers should talk you through their different tariffs, rates and provide advice on your energy consumption. They’ll even organise the switch for you and contact your current supplier to let them know.

As energy prices are currently rising, it’s important you get the best value for money. Check out this extremely helpful article and find out if you can save money today.

6. Turn off the products when you’re not going to be home

Turning off your heating when you’re not going to be around may sound like an obvious and simple factor, but it’s surprising how many of us heat empty rooms in a property or ones that don’t need it for a long period of time. What’s the point heating an entire house at 24ºC all day when you’re only home in the evening and first thing in the morning? Smart controls are a great way to help you manage your energy consumption by heating the rooms as and when needed. The possibility of controlling your products through your smartphone opens a wide range of possibilities to increase the energy savings of your heating installation. With our smart controls, you could turn your radiators on or off at home whilst commuting or turn your water heater off when abroad if you’ve forgotten to do it before you depart. Being able to control each Rointe heating product in your home puts you in charge and means you could potentially save money in the end by managing your energy consumption more effectively.

Our new D Series range allows the user access to control all the features from the D Series range together or individually from a smartphone, tablet or PC with the new Rointe Connect mobile app. The app is the control application for radiators, towel rails and smart water heaters that make up the D Series connected range. Choose the Rointe connected electric heating system and have complete control of an entire installation in the palm of your hand. From this moment on, your smartphone will work as a switchboard for easy control and monitoring consumption. The app also allows the possibility to distribute the products by zones (i.e. floors in a house) and subzones (i.e. rooms) without a limit on the number of rooms or linked products. You can also lock your heating product remotely and adjust the temperature per product as and when you need.

The Rointe Connect app also includes real-time consumption reports that can be viewed by day, month or year along with the ability to configure different kWh prices for each hour of the day. It will also send notifications, warnings and recommendations directly to your smartphone to keep you informed about the status of your installation to help you save on consumption. The app also displays the weather where the installation is located, as well as the weather conditions at the current location, allowing you to react to different weather scenarios.

It has never been so easy for consumers to manage their electric heating system with so many different smart controls within the D Series range from Rointe.
